The Malaysian Fakes, which first started appearing in late 2003, are the
work of an eBay seller with the id of "bidmystamp".
He sells the items, but they are produced by his uncle. At the time of this email 30 Order of the Arrow (OA) patches have been faked by this seller and his uncle.
He has also marketed a fake Imperial Yuma KRS and a Project SOAR patch. His sales on eBay are not confined to the Scouting categories and his other items are likely to be
fake as well.
In response to an initial rush of emails to his bidders telling them the material is fake, all his Scouting items are now listed as "private
auctions". Only the seller knows the identity of the bidders. Others cannot contact his bidders.
Several persons have complained to eBay about these auctions, pointing out how this violates eBay's policy on counterfeit
items and copyright infringement, but eBay has seen fit to take no apparent
action against him.
These fakes are distinguished by their modern computer style (CD) embroidery, and mediocre quality. Many of the patches are cut edge twills, even if the patch being faked is not. At least one item is a rolled edge
patch. A few are solids.
There is no attempt to make these items identical to the originals. Collectors with a minimal amount of experience with the
real items should be able to readily identify these for what they are. He has faked both classic flaps as well as recent items.
His auctions list all these items by lodge name and number, and the label "RPRO" followed by a number.
These Malaysian Fakes, as I have dubbed them, can be seen online at
